Ova Apanowicz age 90, who made her home with her daughter Pamela Carlson and son-in-law Richard in Cumming, Georgia went home to the Lord on Monday, February 22, 2016.
She was born on Friday, May 15, 1925 in Preston County, West Virginia to John W. and Maggie Jones.
During World War II, Ova worked as a Riveter for the Glenn L. Martin Company in Middle River Maryland, near Baltimore, building and repairing PBM and B26 bombers.
After the war, Ova worked for the Monongahela Railroad for 35 years and raised her family in Greene County, Pennsylvania.
She was a great cook and baker and kept a beautiful home for her family.
She enjoyed crochet, embroidery, quilting, reading, playing cards.
Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she always gave her children a wonderful Christmas even when times were hard.
She was so very sweet and will be greatly missed by her family!
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, James Junior Grubb, Kenneth Buchanan, and Stanley Apanowicz; a son, John Edward Buchanan; a granddaughter, Laura Larissa Philpott; a son-in-law, Jim Thomas; and 12 brothers and sisters of whom she was the last.
Ova is survived by five children: Sharron Philpott and husband Frank of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, Linda Thomas of Fairchance, Pennsylvania, Pamela Carlson and husband Richard of Cumming, Georgia, Kenneth Buchanan and wife Marilyn of Oak Hill, West Virginia, Darrell Buchanan and wife Joyce of Dilliner, Pennsylvania Grandchildren are: Tina Thomas Burns and husband Dan of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, Louris James Thomas and wife Shannon of Uniontown, Pennsylvania Tonya Amiri-Owens of Cumming, Georgia, Michael Carlson of Cumming, Georgia and wife Susan of San Francisco, California, Tabatha Ellison and husband Jeff, Princeton West Virginia, Kenny Buchanan and wife Stacy of Buffalo, West Virginia, Garry Austin Buchanan of Mapletown, Pennsylvania, Julie Yerkovich and husband Andy of Dilliner, Pennsylvania, Adam Buchanan and wife Maria also of Dilliner; step grandchildren: Marsha Higbee and husband Joe of Hammanton, New Jersey Patty Baker of Forestdale Rhode Island Stanley Apanowicz of Fairmont, West Virginia and Greg Apanowicz of Fairmont, West Virginia; and 16 great grandchildren.
Family and Friends will be received at the HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV 26505 (304.292.8664) on Monday, February 29, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. with Reverend Charles Prevot officiating.
Entombment will follow at the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
