Abram "Chick" Joyner, 67, passed away peacefully May 11, 2008, after waging an uncompromising struggle with Muscular Dystrophy. Abram is survived by his niece, Cheryl Barge Pierce; nephews, Wendell Barge and Curtis Breathwaite; and a host of family and devoted friends. Chick was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. A memorial service will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 232 Chapel St., Norfolk at noon Friday, May 23, 2008. Interment in Virginia State Veteran's Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Road, Suffolk VA 23434, will be held on a date to be determined. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers or other remembrances, donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
