Ernest was a 1963 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a veteran of the US Air Force. He attended C.H. Mason Memorial COGIC, Norfolk. He worked in civil service as a pipefitter.
He is survived by two daughters, Deria England and Robin Joyner; one son, Ernest L. Joyner III; one sister, Roberta Cooper; two brothers, Carlton E. Joyner, Sr. and Dennis S. Joyner (Doreatha); five grandchildren, Marquis L. Joyner, Asia K. England, Jaylen L. Joyner, Jermaine A.D. Joyner and Jamari A.E. Joyner; niece, Yolanda Brown; great niece, Monae Burnes; three nephews, Carlton L. Joyner Jr., Monroe Burnes and Michael Burnes; cousin, Mattie Wilkins; special friend/caretaker, LuWanda Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
