Elizabeth Kavanagh Casey, 46, of Saco, ME, died Thursday,
(August 23, 2001) at her residence. She was born on April 26, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of William J. and Dorothy Etzel Kavanagh and graduated from Old Saybrook Senior High School in 1973. She graduated from Wheelock College in Boston, MA in 1977. Mrs. Casey taught in School Administration District #6 for 18 years. She educated first grade students at the Eliza Libby School and most recently at Hollis Elementary School. As per her family, the things that Elizabeth valued most in her life were her family, personal relationships and the chance to help others. She took great joy in the accomplishments and successes of other people. The
themes of teamwork and cooperation were very much a part of her daily life.She enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with her mother, children, brothers, nieces and nephews. Her passion for teaching first grade increased with each year of experience. As well as being caring and compassionate, she promoted the ideas of self respect and respect for individual differences in her daily teaching. During the spring, summer and fall, she enjoyed gardening, cycling and walking as well as being a strong supporter of Thornton Academy football and lacrosse. During the winter months she enjoyed skiing at Sunday River with her husband and son. She was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco, ME. She was a member
of the Maine Teachers Association and Saco Valley Teachers Association. She is survived by her mother Dorothy Kavanagh of Hartford, CT. her husband of ten years Paul V. Casey of Saco, ME; one son Ryan P. Lagan of Saco, ME; two step sons Adam Casey of Portland, ME and Ryan Casey of Boothbay Harbor,ME; four brothers William J. Kavanagh of Alburn, CA,
Adrian Kavanagh of Killingworth, CT. David J. Kavanagh of West Haven, CT. Patrick M. Kavanagh of Los Altos, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco, ME.
