Marion Chalupnik, 91, of Brawley passed away Thursday, Sept 6, 2007.

She was born to James and Pearl Kelly on November 5, 1915 in Ramona, California. She attended and graduated from Ramona School District. Her father, James, was a judge of Ramona and an early pioneer of the community. She was one of four children and her siblings Sarah, Dwight and Edwin preceded her in death. In her early years of employment she was a telephone operator in Ramona which led to her meeting her future husband, Victor.

She married Victor Chalupnik in Reno, Nevada on August 10, 1949. They were blessed with 2 sons, Victor James and Randall Joseph. She loved her family very much and had great pride in hosting family gatherings at their home.

She was a wonderful cook and specialized in such delicious dishes as pork chops and macaroni, fried chicken, tacos, sauerkraut, and holiday pastries like kolaches, hay stacks, candies, iced Christmas trees and pies. She also enjoyed canning jams and produce from her husband's garden. She enjoyed her affiliation with the Eastern Star, of over 70 years, where she played piano, in the early days, for their meetings.

After her husband's death in 1980, she enjoyed her trips to visit her sons and their families in the Imperial Valley. She went often to watch her grandchildren and even great-grandchildren participate in sporting, 4-H, FFA, and school events as she had years before with her sons. All of her children and grandchildren have received beautiful handmade quilts and crocheted blankets created by her.

She was raised in the Ramona Friend's Church on Main Street and later became a member of the Ramona Congregational Church. She enjoyed traveling, whether a trip to Cuyamaca Lake for lunch with Doreen or to locations around the United States with her family and friends.

Marion was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing all kinds of flowers. She had pride in her knowledge of plants and their names. She moved to Brawley in her later years to be near her family until her passing.

Marion is survived by her son, Victor and his wife Linda and their children, Travis, Kelly and Laura; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Taylar, Shelby, Haley, Cody and Nathan; and son, Randall and his wife Brenda and their children, Sarah, Trey and Ty.

Viewing was held Friday, September 14 from 6-8pm at Bonham Bros. and Stewart Mortuary. Gravesides Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 15 at Nuevo Memory Gardens with Pastor Pete Mayfield officiating.
