DIXON - Joyce A. Anderson, 74, of Dixon, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford after a short illness.
She was born July 15, 1938, in West Brooklyn, the daughter of James and Gertrude (Goy) Kelly. She was a graduate of Dixon High School, and was the homecoming queen in fall 1955. She married Richard E. "Dick" Anderson on Nov. 9, 1957, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2001.
Joyce had worked for Kline's Department Store, Gamet Liquors, Trailside, and Stables. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. She was a past volunteer for KSB Hospital and a longtime volunteer with Northwest Illinois Special Olympics for bowling, spring games, and the Pumpkin Pedal. She also had served on the committee for the Holiday Fundraiser Kickoff.
Survivors include her children, Deborah (Randy Hazelwood) Kelly, Jamie (Mary) Anderson, and Amy (Lee) Hess, all of Dixon, and Kristin (Mike) Buckley of Rock Falls; five grandchildren, Leslie (Mike) Nelson of Spring Grove, and Dustin (Lyndsey) Kelly and Steven, Marie, and Ryan Hess, all of Dixon; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jace, and Jax Nelson, Lydia Kelly, and Desmond and Fiona Kelly; and three brothers, Richard (Lou) Buckley of Elmhurst, and William "Bill" (Sandra) Kelly and Steve (Susan) Kelly, both of Dixon.
She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Lukas Kelly; one brother, David Kelly; and one sister, Jane Baxter.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Prayer service will be at 10 a.m Thursday at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Bernard Sehr officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
A memorial has been established.
