Veteran of World War II and Korea. As a member of the 101st Airborne Division, he participated in the Normandy, Holland and Bastogne Operations. Joined the 7th Infantry for the landing at Inchon during the Korean Conflict. Served as airborne advisor to Chiang Kai-Shek's elite Airborne Brigade in Taiwan.

Recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation with a cluster, the Belgian Fourragere 1940, and the Belgian Croix De Guerre 1940 with Palm, Dutch Orange Lanyard of Netherlands, and the French Croix De Guerre with Palm, Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, two Bronze Star for valor. Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge with Star, Department of Defense Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Master Parachutists Badge.
