HOLYOKE- Lillian E. (Kennedy) Bieg, age 89, of Holyoke died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late John and Mary (O'Sullivan) Kennedy and had graduated from Holyoke High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. A registered Nurse, Lillian served as a Second Lt. with the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II, where she met General MacArthur in the Phillippines. She was a lifelong resident of Holyoke and did private duty nursing for many years. She was a member of American Legion Post 351 in Holyoke and a communicant of Holy Cross Church. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur D. Bieg in 1986 and her son Donald Bieg in 1994. Lillian is survived by three children John A, Bieg and his wife Aida of Holyoke, Kathleen M. Berrena and her husband Robert of Williamsburg, and Louise K. Bieg of Northhampton, a daughter-in-law Louise Bieg of Southhampton, 9 grandchildren Jeffery, David, and Lisa Bieg, Robert Berrena, Gregory and Alexander Denys, Donald, Ashley and Matthew Bieg. She was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, Jerome and John Kennedy and five sisters, Mary Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy, Helen Rasweiler, Ruth Finn, and Anne McNee. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:00am from the Barry J Farrell Funeral Home followed by a Mass in Holy Cross Church at 10:00am. Burial will follow at St. Jerome's Cemetery.
