Emily Myrtle Kennedy Carpenter, 85, of Charlottesville, died on December 20, 2007 in a local care facility.

Born April 30, 1922 in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late William S. Kennedy and Mattie L. Scruggs Kennedy.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, William C. Carpenter, Jr.; four sisters, Ruby Blake, Mary Michael, Pearl Phillips, and Mable Whitten; and four brothers, Herbert Kennedy, Harold Kennedy, Edward Kennedy, and Henry Kennedy.

Mrs. Kennedy was a retired seamstress whose finished work always amazed everyone. She was well known for her kindness as a caregiver.

Surviving her are three sons, William "Bill" C. Carpenter, III and his wife, Betty Jo, of Lexington, KY, James "Jim" G. Carpenter and his wife, Joan, of Charlottesville, VA, and Harry C. Gleason and his wife, Maria, of Ruckersville, VA; 2 Grandchildren; and 2Great-Grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Saturday, December 22, 2007 in the Hill and Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Anderson officiating.
