WORCESTER Retired pediatrician, (Audrey) Jane Fitzpatrick Kilroy, M.D., died peacefully at the Knollwood Nursing Center on Sunday, May 3, 2009. Dr. Fitzpatrick was the child of Sarah and Michael Fitzpatrick of Southbridge, Mass. She received her M.D. from Tufts University Medical School in 1942 and practiced medicine in Worcester from 1945 to 1985. She was a member of the medical staffs of Hahnemann (where she served as Chief of Pediatrics), Worcester City, and St. Vincent's Hospitals, and was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts Medical from 1975-1985. Dr. Fitzpatrick also served Worcester's Department of Public Health for 45 years, as a school physician from 1959-1985, and, after her retirement, at the city's immunization clinic.

Dr. Fitzpatrick received keys to the City of Worcester twice. Over the years, she served on various medical committees as well as the boards of the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Mass. and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The Dr. A. Jane Fitzpatrick Community Service Award was established in 1991 and is given annually by the Worcester District Medical Society as a memorial tribute to her legacy of service. Dr. Fitzpatrick received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Worcester State College in 2004.

In addition to her professional and community activities, Mrs. Kilroy enjoyed her Monday evenings refinishing furniture at the Worcester Craft Center, Saturday night bowling, shopping for bargains at Spag's, and vacationing in Centerville on Cape Cod. She was a devoted member of All Saints Church.

She was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Jane and her husband, Edward F. Kilroy, MD, who she married in 1946. She is survived by her children John Kilroy of North Chatham, Mass.; Virginia and husband Ronnie Koenig of Ramsey, N.J.; Sally and husband Richard Talbot of Worcester, Mass.; David Kilroy and wife Melodee Wagen of Lexington, Mass.; and her adored grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the A. Jane Fitzpatrick Kilroy Fund of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, 370 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
