VICTORIA - Mary Louise Kitchens Barefield was born on February 7, 1928 in Victoria, Tx. She was the 9th of 11 children through the union of John and Katie Kitchens. She attended Victoria Public Schools. Mom accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Palestine Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Z. Broadus. She always said "God is with you wherever you are and whatever your circumstance".

She helped support her family while working as a housekeeper and cook for over 40 years. She had a love of music, especially blues and gospel. Purple flowers, ivy, birds, bingo, jig saw puzzles, and cooking were some of her other joys.

Her ultimate joy was her family. She was united in marriage to the late Louis Barefield Jr. Mom was blessed with 12 children, and many others who she raised and consider her to be their mom.

On November 23, 2016, Mom entered into eternal peace and is with her Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis; Daughters Carolyn, Charlotte, and Linda; Brothers: Robert, James, John, Alonzo and Charles Kitchens, and Lonnie Sanders; Sisters: Sarah and Elaine Kitchens, Beatrice Duffy, and Minerva Ahart.

A visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Kevin Van Hook officiating.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Barefield's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Services are under the direction and personal care of Grace Funeral Home.
