ALPHA - Rose V. Calmer, age 82, of Alpha died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.
Services are 10 am Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull with the Rev. Nancy Jaster officiating. Burial is in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull, where memorials may be left to the Tri-County Ambulance or Bethany Lutheran Church.
She was born on Feb. 14, 1923, in rural Oneida, Ill., a daughter of John and Icle White Knapp. She graduated from Oneida High School and married Virgil L. Calmer on Feb. 24, 1946, at Ontario Church, in Knox County, Ill. He died Jan. 10, 2005.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and Firestone Tire Co. in Galesburg.
She was a homemaker and a partner in the operation of the family farm.
She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was Cherub Choir director and member of the WELCA.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and loved to play the organ and accordion.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-laws, Donavin and Miriam Calmer of Roseville, Martin Calmer of Milan, Dennis and Brenda Calmer of Morton, Ill., and Marion Calmer of Alpha; six grandchildren, Charlotte, Benjamin, Erin, Eric, Ashley and Aliza; one great-granddaughter, Claire Grace Shannon; and one brother, Clyde Knapp of Lewistown, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, John.
