Andrew Richardson Knowland, D.D.S., 84, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007 at the Carlyle House, Framingham. Death followed a long period of failing health.

Born in Braintree on Nov. 2, 1922, he was a son of Richardson G. and Katharine (Graham) Knowland. He graduated from Williston Academy, Easthampton, in 1942; attended Duke University and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1948; and later served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He practiced dentistry in Williamstown for 36 years, retiring in 1986.

While in Williamstown, he was a member and deacon of the Williamstown Congregational Church.
He was member and past president of the Williamstown Rotary Club and served on the Board of the Williamstown Savings Bank.

Following his retirement, he lived in Bennington, Vt., before moving to Marlborough in 2004.

While in Marlborough, he was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, Framingham.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, the former Becky Crothers; two sons, a brother, and four grandchildren.

A brother, William E. Knowland, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Andrew Knowland will be held Saturday, March 10, 2 p.m., in the Williamstown Congregational Church. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Bennington, Vt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation of Massachusetts, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02471.

The William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, Marlborough, is in charge of arrangements.
