Death of Mrs. Joseph Achatz

The community was shocked Monday morning to learn that Mrs. Joseph Achatz had passed away Sunday evening after a few days illness with pneumoia. Not many days before her death she had done down town shopping and was apparently in the best of health.

Mrs. Joseph Achatz, whose maiden name was Mary Kraus, was born in Bermansrieth Bavaria, September 5, 1855, and was married in Ruhmansfelden, Bavaria, to Joseph Achatz, August 28, 1878. They came to America in 1882, settling in Carroll county, where they lived for 29 years, on a farm one and a half miles south of this city. In 1911 they sold their farm and retired to their home in the southeast part of the city.

Of the six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Achatz, four are living, two sons and two daughters, namely, Joseph, Rev. John Achatz of Granville, Iowa, who was ordained a year ago last summer, Mrs. Bernard Roth, of Geddes, South Dakota, and Mrs. John Hansman, living one and a half miles north of Willey.

Mrs. Achatz was an exemplary woman and was beloved by numberless friends. Always pleasant to meet and a devoted member to her church. She will be missed by all the parish as well as by countless other friends.

The funeral was held Wednesday morning from SS. Peter and Paul's church.
