E. Elmer Kreger, 80, of Gilbert died Thursday, Sept. 25, in his home. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Hawk) Kreger.

He worked in the soils department for PennDOT for 16 years until retiring in 1979. Previously, he was a farmer in Gilbert for 31 years.

Born in Gilbert, he was a son of the late Ervin E. and Daisy A. (Everett) Kreger.

He was a member and former 40-year councilman of Salem United Church of Christ, Gilbert. He also was chairman of the building and grounds committee when the current church was under construction.

Kreger also served on the Monroe County General Authority for more than four years and on the Chestnuthill Township Planning Commission for about 30 years.

In 1966, he was appointed to the Board of Monroe County Park and Recreation and was its chairman for about 25 years.

He was a member of the West End Fair Association, having been a director, 1961-97.

Kreger was a charter member and Hauptman for 16 years of Grundsow Lodge 6.

He was a board member of the Gilbert Cemetery Association for 35 years and a member of Masonic Lodge 780, Swiftwater.

Survivors: Son, Richard of Fort Pierce, Fla.; daughter, Karen Chain of Gilbert; sisters, Grace Schmieg and Marguerite Wagner, both of Allentown, five grandchildren and a step-great-grand child.
