Audrey Labelle Best, 95, of St. Augustine Shores, Fla., passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2010, at Flagler Hospital. She was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Jan. 9, 1915. She attended a private high school in Cleveland Heights while living in a country club that her father, Joseph Labelle, worked in. The family moved to New York, where Audrey worked at Child"s restaurant as a hostess. She later worked at the World"s Fair in the French Pavilion.

She was married to Herman Best, the chief tugboat dispatcher of New York Harbor. She moved to Miami in 1947 and worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company until she retired. In 1980 she moved to St. Augustine Shores, where her daughter, Ellen Gill, lived. She joined the Riverview Club and found a life she loved with friends and dancing. She was a member of the SABDA, where she enjoyed ballroom dancing. At the Riverview Club, some of her favorite dance tunes were "YMCA," "Proud Mary" and "New York, New York."

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Ellen Gill (Tom); her son, Sheldon Best (Linda); grandchildren, Stephen, Michael, Michelle, Suzy, Stephanie and Tiffany; and great-grandchildren, Corin, Patrick, Hayden, Brendan, Harrison, Megan and Xavier.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Craig Funeral Home, followed by burial at Craig Memorial Park and a reception for family and friends at The Riverview Club.
