LOWELL -- Irene C. (Briere) Laffey, 93, a lifelong Lowell resident died Monday July 1, 2013 at D'Youville Senior Care. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Laffey. Born in Lowell on July 9, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Edouard and Alma (Boivin) Briere. For many years, Irene worked as a food service manager for the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lowell. -- Irene was dedicated to her family and her very special Godchild. She was an avid Red Sox fan, bingo player and long-time supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She was predeceased by her son, Robert F.J. Laffey and is survived by her four grandchildren, Sherri Sarrouf of North Andover, MA, Kelly Homsey of Windham, NH, Christopher Laffey of Pelham, NH, Heather Chaloux of Windham, NH and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Godchild, Priscille (Letourneau) McDonough. She was the sister of the late Lillian Patrick.
