Arthur was born to Amos J. and Sarah Catherine "Kate" Troyer Lais and married Ethel Elizabeth Zook on Aug. 28, 1943, in Hubbard, Ore. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2003 before she went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 26 of that year.

He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years. He retired in 2005 at the age of 84, as our nation's oldest mail carrier.

Arthur was a member of Fellowship Bible Church and was active in Community Bible Study and The Fishermen (in the 1960s).

Arthur is survived by his children, Gerry Lais (Kathy), Marci Lais Pesch (Jim), Fred Lais, Greg Lais (Janine), James "Chip" Lais (PJ) and Valeri Lais; as well as 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Grace, Silas, Ralph, Bert, Mabel, Mildred and Blanche.
