Loretta Lamar Walker Barrett died at 7:21 p.m. September 21, 2009, at Alive Hospice of St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

Mrs. Barrett was born February 16, 1931, to the late Harvey and Roxie Kennedy Walker near Calvert City, Ky. She was a dedicated Christian, serving with her husband in four pastorates in 53 years. She is a retired nurse who received her training at Paducah Community College in Paducah, Ky. She worked 18 years at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah and an additional 6 years at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.


Mrs. Barrett is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rev. O. Jewell Barrett of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Sherry Cooper (husband Kenny) and Debby Custer (husband Gary), both of Nashville; and grandsons, Jonathan Barrett Cooper, Joshua Cooper, Nathan Zimmerer, all of Nashville, and Patrick Zimmerer of Atlanta, Ga. There is also a sister, Mayetta Harris of Calvert City, Ky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, David Zimmerer.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Vaughn's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Possum Trot with Revs. Bruce Watts, Bill Miller, Wendell Ordway and Dr. C. Kenny Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Kenton Cemetery in Paducah.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Friends may also call after 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Jonathon Cooper, Josh Cooper, Nathan Zimmerer and Patrick Zimmerer and son in law Gary Custer.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Vaughn's Chapel Church, 4775 Calvert City Road, Calvert City, KY 42029; or to Battle Creek Baptist Church, 2566 Battle Creek Road, Springfield, TN 37172.
