Harold served as a Corporal & Tail Gunner on B-24D #42-40217, 372nd Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in New York County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 11, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Clerk and also as Married.

B-24D #42-40217 took off from Carney Field on Guadalcanal on a bombing mission against Kahili Airfield on southern Bougainville along with 23 other bombers.

After releasing their bombs B-24D #42-40217 was attacked by possibly a Japanese Zero causing damage to the #1 & #2 engines and they crashed into the sea during the war.

Harold was declared "Missing In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
