Morgan Southgate Lankford, 78, of the 5000 block of Beckner St., died Sept. 3, 2001, in his residence. A native of Isle of Wight County, he lived in Norfolk since 1953. He was the son of the late Mills Everette Lankford and Charlotte Cora Lankford.

Mr. Lankford was a member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II, and a member of Norview Masonic Lodge No. 113, AF&AM. He retired as a welder from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, on Sept. 26, 1985.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lois V. Boyce Lankford. He is survived by a son, Robert Lee Lankford and wife, Kathy; a daughter, Nancy C. Lankford Bloise and husband, Joseph; two granddaughters, Sheri Leigh Lankford and Lois Bloise Vetrano; two grandsons, Jeffrey Lee Lankford and Morgan Joseph Bloise; and a great-grandson, Jonathan M. Vetrano, all of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. He was predeceased by a special friend, Shirley McCabe.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by Dr. Paul C. Lawson. Burial will follow in the Masonic Gardens at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
