(Marilyn) Jane Armstrong, "Gamum," 81, passed away on March 24, 2016 due to complications arising from lymphoma at the home of her daughter, Heather.
She was born February 7, 1935 in Manti to Rulon Larsen and Maude Christensen. She had one brother, Dave. They lived mostly in the Salt Lake City area, and as children enjoyed the company of many cousins close by. She had many fond memories of visits to "granny" in Manti and making jams and jellies in her little house on a hot wood stove. Jane attended West High School and graduated in June of 1953.
She married George Kent Armstrong in August of 1960 and they had one daughter, Heather.
Jane worked for many years in banking beginning with First Security Bank as a teller and then on to other banks in the installment loans division. She then went on to work as a front desk receptionist for Sterling Financial and they became her family for many years. She was a terrific employee, always prompt and dressed impeccably. She was loved by all she worked with.
She was an amazing mom to Heather and son-in-law, Steve. She was a fun and silly grandma for Alex, his wife, Abbey; Meagan, Matthew, and Eric. She was also a great-grandma to Alex and Abbey's son, Carson.
She loved to sew as well as knit and crochet. She kept Heather outfitted in beautiful clothes, including her wedding dress. When the grandkids came along, she kept them in wonderful Halloween costumes like Star Wars Jedis, Disney princesses and characters, including Belle, Captain Hook and Peter Pan, and Jack Sparrow.
Later in her life, she met Ed Jones and they planned to be married, but he had a bad heart and sadly passed away in August of 1997. While they were together, they did a lot of traveling. Ed loved to fly fish and they saw many wonderful places like Yellowstone, Montana, Canada, and California, as well as making trips to see the grandkids.
She was a big supporter of her grandkids and all their sports. She sat through basketball games, football games, and baseball games in all kinds of weather, cheering them on loudly. She bragged about them to anyone who would listen.
She had a wonderful life and family was everything to her. She went out of her way to help them any way she could. There is no doubt she had a warm welcome from family members who preceded her in death as she passed through the veil. Thank you to all for your friendship and love during her illness including the many visits to the rehab center. She enjoyed them so much. She will be missed by so many.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing one hour prior to the services, on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1450 East).
