She was the beloved wife of William Chet Lewinski for the past 59 years.
Born in Bellingham, October 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Mikolaj and Katzazyna Skalubinski, who were Polish immigrants.
Mrs. Lewinski was raised and had lived in Bellingham for most of her life prior to moving to Mendon. She was a graduate of Bellingham High School.
She had worked in the offices of Najarians Department Store, US Rubber Company, and Narragansett Products Company in Woonsocket. Betty enjoyed working for 22 years as a guidance secretary at Bellingham Jr. Sr. High School. She retired in 1991.
She had been a Bellingham Library Trustee for several years. She taught herself sewing, quilting, which she enjoyed immensely. She was a voracious reader. She enjoyed traveling, which she and her husband did extensively. Among trips taken, the trip to Poland, country of her ancestors, was the most interesting.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her sons Walter Lewinski of Mendon and John Lewinski of Boston. She is also survived by her brother John Skalubinski and his wife Phyllis of North Smithfield, RI. She was the sister of the late Victor Skalubinski and Mary Gagnon. She also leaves several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday March 9 at 10:00 in St. Brendans Church at 10:00. Burial will be in Bellingham Union Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 8:30 -9:30 in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.gineyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber St. Medway.
