This morning about two o'clock death ended the sufferings of Mrs. Mary E. Blount, wife of Hon. J.A. Blount, of this city. Mrs. Blount has for two years been enfeebled in health, and about eight weeks ago grew so much worse that she was confined to her bed and since that time has suffered greatly, until just before she entered into her long rest. Her illness was due to cancer of the stomach, which with other complications, gave her great bodily pain, seemingly unbearable, and yet through all this she showed remarkable fortitude, there being no murmur or complaint, and this too, with her mind clear, and all of her intellectual faculties keenly alive and appreciative of the circumstances. She endured pain with a patience, and looked into the future with courage and trust, which was wonderful. It was a hard test, but the same womanliness which had shown itself in so many ways in her quiet home life, stood the test grandly, and showed the genuineness of character which had so long been admired, esteemed and loved by those who were honored with her acquaintance and friendship.

Mrs. Blount's maiden name was Libbey, and sixteen years ago she married him who has so tenderly cared for her, and to whom she was so devoted. She had at the time of her death reached the age of forty-six years, and leaves, besides the husband, three children. He life was a quiet, unostentatious one, and her time and strength was given with true devotion to her home and the loved ones, and her great delight seemed to be to fill well the mission, and perform every duty of a devoted wife, a loving mother, a true woman.

Her character had won many friends, and the news of her death will send a thrill of sorrow through many a social circle here, and call forth a genuine feeling of sympathy for the household thus shadowed.

The funeral services are to be held at the family residence to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.
