A mother and her four children perished in an early morning fire today in their home in suburban Harvey.
Lieut. George Kauer of the Harvey police department identified the dead as Mrs. Nona Hoover, 43, and her children, Linda May, one year old, James, 12, Violet, 13, and Robert, 7.
Police Chief Albert Rowl said Walter Wade. 43, a roomer at the Hoover home, fled from the flaming two-story frame dwelling after he was awakened by flames outside his first room. Wade said he had no chance to go to the assistance of Mrs. Hoover and her children, all asleep on the second floor.
Fire Chief Fred Hoffman said the fire apparently was started by an overheated oil burner on the second floor. Rowl said Mrs. Hoover was divorced from Otis Hoover. 45, who is living in St. Louis. He had remarried. Rowl said.

CHICAGO, Feb. 18 (AD A mother and her four children perished in a fire early today in their home in suburban Harvey. Police identified the dead as Mrs. Nona Hoover, 43 years old, and her children, Linda May, James, Violet and Robert.
Police said Walter Wade, a roomer at the Hoover home, fled from the two-story frame dwelling after he was awakened by flames outside his first floor room. Wade said he had no chance to go to the assistance of Mrs. Hoover and the children, all asleep on the second floor.
Wade, who was unable to find home here for his wife and 6-year-old daughter, had lived at the Hoover home two months. His family is living In Newport, Ill.
Fire Chief Fred Hoffman said the fire apparently was started by an overheated oil burner on the second floor.
Police said Mrs. Hoover was divorced from Otis Hoover, 45, who was living in St. Louis. He had remarried, police said.
Otis Hoover is an engineer on a Mississippi River steamboat and rooms at 810 Park avenue. He was divorced about 10 years ago. Mrs. Hoover and the children had never lived here. Another son, Walter, 17 years old. has been living recently in St. Louis with his father. Hoover left Immediately for Harvey, Ill., after learning of the deaths.
