Sarah Jane (Lincoln) Seward, 62, of Midlothian, passed away at home May 13, 2015. Sarah Jane had fought a long, determined battle with breast cancer. She was a 12-year breast cancer survivor. Her final months were lived close to her daughter, Abby, son-in-law, Travis, and grandchildren, Katlynn and Parker. She fought the good fight and finished the race with love and devotion for those around her.
Sarah Jane was born Nov. 27, 1952, on Thanksgiving Day, to Deen and Mary Lincoln of Avon, Illinois. She graduated from Avon High School, Avon, Illinois, in 1971. She then attended Barnes Hospital School of Nursing, St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1973. As an R.N., she worked a number of locations and positions from St. Louis, to small town Wamego, Kansas, to an Army base in Crailsheim, Germany, to L&D in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas. Over 30 years in nursing, her greatest love was always as a Labor and Delivery nurse. She loved caring for the babies. She finished her career as a Wellness Nurse in 2005 at The Forum Retirement Center in Houston where she received and handed out daily hugs to her patients.
Sarah Jane Lincoln married Paul Allen Seward on June 2, 1974, at the Roseville Methodist Church, Roseville, Illinois. Their life together took them many places: Wamego, Kansas; Crailsheim, Germany; Wichita, Kansas; Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Houston, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; and Midlothian, Virginia. Always Sarah Jane made friends with her smile, caring spirit and a plate of brownies, not to slight her killer German Chocolate cake and lasagna. She liked to travel and meet new people. While in Germany, she and Paul traveled to many countries in Europe and elsewhere. She was thrilled to see the wild animals in Kenya, the pyramids of Egypt, and the holy places of Israel. Her dad, Deen, though would always ask her every chance he could, "When are you coming home to stay?" Sarah Jane is home now.
Sarah Jane was preceded in death by her father, Deen S. Lincoln of Avon, Illinois; mother-in-law, Nona Jene Seward; and father-in-law, Paul Seward, of Leon, Kansas.
Sarah Jane is survived by her husband, Paul Allen; daughter, Elizabeth Abigail (Abby) Sykes, son-in-law, Travis Sykes, two grandchildren, Katlynn Elizabeth Villarreal and Parker Alexander Sykes, all of Midlothian, Virginia; her mother, Mary (Melton) Lincoln, Monmouth, Illinois; sisters, Virginia "Ginger" (David) Lewis, Canton, Illinois, and Marianne (Rob) Peirce, Cameron, Illinois; sister-in-law, Annie (Larry) Crabtree, Spring, Texas; brother-in-law, Sam (Sheryl) Seward, Wichita, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Robin (Greg) Quick, Cleveland, Oklahoma.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the Avon Cemetery, Avon, Illinois, followed by a service of celebration at 11:30 a.m. at the Fairview Center UM Church, Monmouth, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of Sarah Jane Seward. A web site in her memory has been established. In 2006, Sarah Jane walked the Susan G. Komen 3-day, 60-mile Walk for the Cure Event held in Dallas/Fort Worth.
