21st Marines, 3rd Marine Division

Jake Lindsey was wounded during the 3rd Division landings on the island of Guam. He was struck in the shoulder by shrapnel and could have come home but chose to return to his unit in time for the landings at Iwo Jima. He was just a few feet from his best buddy when a grenade tossed from a Japanese tank sent a piece of shrapnel into his forehead. He died instantly there in Motoyamo Village near the 2nd airfield on Iwo.
