Virginia "Ginger" Currin Linkous Campney, 89, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 18, at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church, where Ginger's memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Foundation, 418 North Main St, Penn Yan, NY 14527; Penn Yan United Methodist Church, "Living" Memorial Fund, PO Box 242, Penn Yan, NY 14527; or Food for the Needy, Penn Yan First Baptist Church, 224 Main St., Penn Yan, NY.

Born January 1, 1919, in Crane's Nest, VA, Ginger was one of 14 children of the late Eugene B. and Willie Mae Currin Linkous.

Following a family move to Clinchco, VA, she graduated as class valedictorian. Ginger played several collegiate sports while attending James Madison University. She was a longtime employee at Chase Bank in Penn Yan. She served on the Soldiers and Sailors Auxiliary Board for several years, as well as volunteering at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital and Food for the Needy in Penn Yan.

Ginger was predeceased in 1993 by her husband of 55 years, Donald E. Campney.

Also she was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters; Clara, Opal, Edna, Willie Mae "Bill", Ralph, George, John "Blue", Ernest "Sug", Jim, Bob.

Burial will be at the family's convenience at Thornspring Methodist Church, Pulaski, VA.
