Orna was born to Arthur and Louise Lister on January 18, 1925. She was the only child of Louise's who later married Augusta Hall and raised Orna. She was baptized at an early age and a 2nd generation member of Lee Chapel United Methodist Church. Orna attended schools in Brazos County and graduated from E. A. Kemp High school. She was trained as a cosmetologist at Wooley's Beauty School and Charles and Sue's School of Hair Design.

Orna worked in many capacities, but was best known for her being a great cook. She worked in the shipyards of Seattle, Washington and was a hostess and cook in Dallas, Texas. Always trying to be a good neighbor, she served as Neighborhood Watch chairman and whenever someone in the neighborhood passed away, Orna would ensure that the neighborhood contributed to a plant for the deceased. Before her health failed, she was an active member of the United Methodist Women's group, serving as chairperson for the monthly dinners at Wesley Foundation. She also loved to take care of the elderly, often taking Sunday dinners to them. Orna loved telling stories about her childhood, often reminiscing about her childhood days and old friends.
