A Civil War veteran, he served as mayor of Poland. The 1900 census shows William and Cornelia in Poland Village and he is an insurance agent. After Cornelia's death William married Ella A. Langsdorf in Pennsylvania. He was 69 and she was 31.He was a merchant and she a bookkeeper. The 1930 census shows William as a widower living with a Shultz couple in Xenia, Ohio. He died at age 92 in Dayton, Ohio as a widower.
