Obituary - The Porterville Recorder

Joyce Marie Lombardi, a resident of Tulare, died there Saturday, April 5, 2003. She was 77. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel in Porterville. A vigil service will be held at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Porterville with the Rev. Scott Daugherty officiating. Interment will take place at St. Anne's Cemetery.

Mrs. Lombardi was a native of Lindsay and a resident of Porterville for 70 years. She came to Porterville from Lindsay at the age of 8. She graduated from Porterville Union High School in 1943. She was a member of the Young Farmers' Wives in the 1950s and 1960s; St. Anne's Mother's Club for 22 years, St. Anne's Auxiliary for 25 years; Children's Home Society for 30 years and St. Anne's Church for more than 50 years. She was a 4-H leader in sewing and cooking for 18 years. In 1996, she was awarded the Monsignor Dillon Award for her many years of service to St. Anne's School. She was dedicated to her children, two foreign exchange students and countless others. She loved decorating and sewing for others and many craft projects. All of her efforts were for non-profit organizations. Her favorite relaxation was going to Camp Nelson with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of exactly 59 years, Guido Anthony Lombardi of Porterville; two sons, Guido Allan Lombardi of Visalia and James N. Lombardi of Porterville; four daughters, Carol DeVincentis, Marilyn Stafford, Beverly Ward and Elissa Lombardi, all of Porterville; four brothers, James Pitcock of Forbestown, Charles Pitcock of Prescott, Ariz., Eldredge Pitcock of Daly City and Aubrey Pitcock of Brentwood; four sisters, Kathryn Atkinson and Marjorie Achterberg, both of Porterville, Ruth Ramirez of Capistrano Beach and Vel Mae Ely of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lombardi was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Lombardi, in 1966. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne's School, 378 N. "F" St., Porterville, CA 93257. Myers Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
