Lizella, GA-James Thomas Long, 91, passed away on April 10, 2010 in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Franklin Etheridge and Reverend Jody Long will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 PM on Monday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Mr. Long was born in Macon, Georgia and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Having been wounded in the right chest, arms and left side of the face, Mr. Long was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He also received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the American Defense Service Ribbon with two Battle Stars, the citation for Outstanding Performance in the Battle of Kasserine Pass, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Distinguished Unit Badge.

Mr. Long was predeceased by a son Terry Long; sisters Evelyn Tidwell, Viviette Davis and Helen Rogers; and brother Lee Long.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife Audrey A. Long; sons Richard "Ricky" (Jenny) Long, Kenneth "Kenny" Long, and Dennis Long; daughter-in-law Linda Long; and siblings Ontee Ward, Ray (Pat) Long, Myrtle "Mimi" Coley, Bobbi (Tony) Pupo, Margie Merriman, and Mildred (Hugh) Windham; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

The family is most appreciative of the love and care provided by Kim Watson, Mr. Long's personal caregiver.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund.
