Virginia Ann Long Bain, age 81, of Carrollton, GA died Saturday, February 7, 2015 following an extended illness. Mrs. Bain was born in Rome, GA on January 30, 1934 to the late Malcolm McWhorter Long and Dorothy Angle Long.
She graduated from Rome Senior High School in 1952.
She moved to New Orleans in 1952 to attend the Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA where she graduated in 1955. While in nursing school, she met her future husband and was married to Robert Russell Bain, Jr. on June 7, 1957.
She worked at Southern Baptist Hospital as a registered nurse for several years before staying at home to raise her four children. During her years as a stay-at-home mom, she held various positions in the PTA and band boosters. She was a devoted mother, who spent many days watching soccer and baseball, bringing the children to music lessons and various church functions. She returned to nursing in 1983 serving several positions at Ochsner Clinic in Jefferson, Louisiana.
She was a church soloist and taught children’s choirs for many years. She was very active in church, attending First Baptist Church, Kenner, LA and Parkview Baptist Church in Metairie, LA during her over 50 years in the New Orleans area. She moved to Carrollton, GA in 2008 with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Carrollton, GA, where she was a member of the Grace Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Bain and his wife Joyce Bain of Haslet, TX, daughter Kathryn Bain, MD and Ed McGee, Jr of Carrollton, GA and daughter-in-law Ellen Bain of Kenner, LA; two grandsons, Joshua and Matthew McGee; her brothers Jim Long and his wife Susan Long of Rome, GA and John Long and his wife Pirkko Long of Winder, GA.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Robert Russell Bain, Jr and two sons Karl Alexander Bain and Eric Russell Bain.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Almon Funeral Home, 548 Newnan Street in Carrollton, GA and from 2-3pm on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Pisgah Baptist Church, 5603 Alabama Highway SW, Rome, GA 30165 with interment following at the Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA 30117 and at 3:00pm on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Pisgah Baptist Church. Special music will be provided by Julie Lowry. Pallbearers will be Jim Long, John Long, Ed McGee, Jr., and Matthew Jayne. Junior Pallbearers will be Joshua McGee and Matthew McGee. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Grace Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to the Special Olympics or First Baptist Church, 102 Dixie Street, Carrollton, GA 30117. “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2
