Gertude M. (Lopes) Caiado-Nunes, 49, of New Bedford, formerly of Warren, Rhode Island died Sunday February 22, 2004 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a long illness.
Born in Sao Nicolau, Cape Verde, the daughter of Maria C. Silva of Providence, and the late Antone M. Lopes, she had lived in Dartmouth, and in Warren, RI, before moving to New Bedford.

She was employed as a nurse's aide at St. Elizabeth's Manor in Bristol, RI.

Survivors include her mother; 2 sons, Jason Caiado of Sunnyvale, CA, and Joshua Caiado of Schweinfurt, Germany; 6 brothers, Manuel Lopes of New Bedford, Joaquim Lopes of Dartmouth, Joseph Lopes of Florida, Frank Lopes of Fairhaven, Mass., Antone M. Lopes, Jr., of Baltimore, MD, and Luciano Silva of Pawtucket; 6 sisters, Mary Mendes and Hilda Correia, both of New Bedford, Juanita Figueiredo of Puerto Rico, Mary DeLuz Rozario of Fall River, Mass., Lucilia Lopes of Pawtucket, and Fatima Lopes of Italy; 3 grandchildren, Hailey Caiado, Antoine Caiado and Savannah Caiado; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Rose Mendes.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
