Olga L. CASAVANT, 74, of Country Meadows of Lancaster, 1380 Elm Ave., died Wednesday afternoon at Lancaster General Hospital after an illness of several months. A veteran middle school math teacher, she was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and earned a master's degree in nursing from Yale University School of Nursing. She served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps from 1946 to 1950, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. She also was a nursing instructor at Lancaster General Hospital, and worked as a school nurse. After 13 years in nursing, she decided to become a math teacher, retiring from Manheim Township School District in 1980. She taught for a total of 25 years, including 18 years at Manheim Township. A long-time resident of 1910 Sterling Place, she was a member of the Church of the Apostles, United Church of Christ, where she was a regular office volunteer. She was also a Sunshine Committee member there, and an officer in the Apostles Seniors group. She was also a member of the Lancaster Area Retired Public School Employee Association and a board member of the Lanco Federal Credit Union. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and volunteered at Community Hospital of Lancaster. She also volunteered at Landis Valley Farm Museum during Harvest Days and other special events. She was a docent at the North Museum and a member of the North Museum Associates. Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late J. Carlos and Sarah WEABER LOPES. Surviving are three sisters: Lela W. LOPES and Zelia W. LOPES, both of Myerstown; and Rita L., Wife of Harry J.
