Ila Losee Carnell

our "Cowboy's Sweetheart" 1914 ~ 2012
At age 97, Ila returned home to her father in heaven surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday March 6th after an unexpected illness. She was the third of 11 children born August 27th 1914 in Fairview Utah to Isaac Huff Losee and Roxie Ann Young Losee.

She grew up in Sugarville near Delta Utah on a farm and learned early on that she had a special talent for singing and playing the guitar. After graduating from high school she came to Salt Lake to find work, joined a Country Western Band and met the love of her life, William Woodrow (Woody) Carnell. They were married on July 3rd, 1937.

Ila and Woody both had a God given gift and love for music and spent many happy hours sharing that love with their children. They had 6 children and 3 generations of grand children as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ila, played guitar and sang on KDYL radio along with Woody and their band for dances in popular night spots in the 30's and 40's. She learned how to yodel and she delighted all who knew her with her musical talents. In her later years she volunteered her time and talents to entertaining groups at nursing homes, senior centers and private parties and church activities throughout Utah. She was a member of numerous Western bands, some of which included her brothers Virgil, Roy and Cecil Losee.

Ila had a loving heart and befriended everyone. You couldn't help but smile when you were in her presence. She had great compassion for life and she especially loved her grandchildren and took great pride in their every accomplishment. As a faithful member of the LDS Church, she served in many callings such as teaching and leading music and it was always with a smile. Among her many hobbies & talents were, sewing, refurbishing dolls for her doll shop, telling wonderful stories of days gone by to her family and sharing her great sense of humor.
Mom, we love you so very much and we will always hold your memory safe in our hearts….

………………Sweet dreams cowgirl til we meet again…………
Preceded in death by her husband, her son William Robert, her parents, 7 siblings and several grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Margene (Blair) Sorenson, Charlene Schmitt, Jack (Cindy) Carnell, Carol Lynn ( Lou) Vredeveld, Tom (Cindy) Carnell and brothers, Glen Losee, Gene (June) Losee) and Virgil (Elaine) Losee and many loving grandchildren.
