Hazel S. Lowry passed away November 23, 2013.

Born in Meyersdale, PA, as a young child she moved with her parents to Somerset, PA. She graduated from Somerset High School, having belonged to the National Honor Society. Her younger years were spent at the Akron YMCA as a secretary. Later, during World War II, she worked at the Firestone in the Gunmount Division, and then as a secretary in the International Division.

She was a longtime member of the Akron Woman’s City Club and P.E.O. She played bridge there and also belonged to other bridge groups. In 1950, she and Chet became members of Grace Lutheran Church on Portage Path, and after many years there, they transferred to Fairlawn Lutheran Church. Hazel was a member of the Forever Young Group. She and her husband traveled extensively to many countries in Europe and also on many cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico and Alaska. They also took many bus trips to the mountains in the northwest.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Chester “Chet” Lowry; daughte and her husband; grandchildren; sisters and other relatives in Pennsylvania.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fairlawn Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles Lentner officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Any donations should go to Fairlawn Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3415 W. Market St., Akron , Ohio 44333.
