Jody Lynn Lowry, 54, passed away early in the morning on December 25, 2009 after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer.

Jody was surrounded by her beloved family and friends. A lifelong resident of Akron, Jody was the eldest child of Jacob and Elaine Apelbaum. In 1979, Jody married the love of her life, Randal Lowry. Their journey together was enhanced by the births of their beloved daughters, Marisa and Meredith.

Jody received great pleasure during her life by helping others and living a life in service to her community. Jody was an active volunteer, serving as a Past President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Akron Bar Association. Jody regularly volunteered at The Alzheimer's Association, The Summit County Battered Women's Shelter, Children's Hospital and the St. Joseph Parenting Center. Jody also acted as a Guardian Ad Litem for the Summit County CASA/GAL Program where she worked on behalf of the rights of children. Most recently Jody chaired the Annual Alzheimer's Association Gala.

Jody's greatest joys came from watching her children grow into young women, spending time with her family, and entertaining friends in her home. Jody filled each day with purpose and lived her life with incomparable style and grace.

Jody is survived by her husband, Randy; her cherished daughters, Marisa and Meredith; her adoring mother, Elaine Apelbaum; her brother, Perry (Laura); her mother-in-law, Sybil Lowry; brother-in-laws, Rick (Rona), and Ron (Debbie). Jody also leaves behind countless relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Jake, and her sister, Dina.

Although her time on this earth was all too short, every person she encountered benefited from the generosity of sprit that radiated from her sparkling eyes and her ever-kind heart. She selflessly gave herself and left this world a much better place.

Services will be held at the Akron Jewish Center at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009 located at 750 White Pond Drive. Calling hours will be at the Lowry residence Sunday after the services and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Revere Road Synagogu
