Chester P. Lowry, 93, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015.

Born on January 23, 1922 in Friedens, PA., he was the son of Irvin H. and Minnie Pile Lowry and the youngest of nine children. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was a past Commander of the American Legion Post # 449. He met the love of his life, Hazel in 1941, and they were married November 26, 1944. They moved to Akron, Ohio where he began working for Goodyear Aircraft Corp. and then became a building inspector for the City of Akron, retiring after 30 years. He secured a realtors license in 1965 and became an appraiser for Summit County Probate Court until retiring in 2009 when he was 87 years old.

Chet was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church on Portage Path, where he held many offices, until transferring to Fairlawn Lutheran Church. He was a longtime member of the Akron Woman's City Club with Hazel. He also belonged to the Akron Men's Garden Club. When he and Hazel moved to Rockynol Retirement Community he was instrumental in planting flowers on the grounds and identifying and developing their "Tree Trail". Chester loved to travel including trips to Europe and cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico and Alaska. His latest trip was back in 2010 with members of Fairlawn Lutheran Church to Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany.

Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by Firestone VFW Post # 3383.
