Mary Elizabeth was the 5th of 7 children. Her mother died when she was 3 years old. Her father gave her to one of his five sisters as a companion to one of their daughters. The girls name waas Maria Theola Schulte. The Schultes were wealthy farmers. She learned to milk cows, sew and knit. Later she came to St. Louis Mo. with one of her cousins, Karl Schulte. The Schultes had a large dairy farm. Then she went to Buchtel where her sister Anna Gerdes and her brother Herman Ludden were living. She met Alexander Hugo Geenter there and married him.
Her father was an only son.
After her mother died, he married and had a son Robert
