Lawrence W. Lyons III
WESTBOROUGH - Lawrence W. Lyons III, of Westborough, MA., died peacefully on March 9, 2015, at the age of 75.
The son of the late Lawrence W. Jr., and Edith (MacKay) Lyons, he was born in Quincy, MA., and grew up in Braintree and Barnstable.
Larry graduated from Thayer Academy as valedictorian of the class of 1957. He received BS and MS degrees in mathematics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was recipient of a NROTC scholarship. After college he served in the Navy aboard the USS Galveston. He worked for Litton Industries, Raytheon, and M.I.T.
An avid railroad enthusiast and collector of railroad memorabilia, he enjoyed spending leisure time train riding and train watching. He also enjoyed boating on Cape Cod, reading and politics.
He is survived by a sister, Janet Brooks and her husband, Terry, of Barnstable; nephews Gregory Brooks and his wife Jennifer, of North Carolina; Jason Brooks and his wife Lee-Anne, of Hull, MA; grandnieces, Taylor, Sara and Josie Brooks of North Carolina; Madelyn and Edie Brooks of Hull and many cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville, MA., on Friday, May 22, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Interment will follow at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA., at 12:30 p.m.
