MATHEW MICHELS

Mathew P. Michels, 64, of 911 North Ninth street, Manitowoc, died early Tuesday
at Holy Family hospital following an illness of five months.
Mr. Michels was born in 1887 at Algoma, Wis. He moved to Marshfield, Wis., when
a young man and worked at a hardware store there until 1919 when he moved to
Dorchester, Wis. He was village clerk at Dorchester for several years and operated
a hardware store there prior to moving to Manitowoc in 1930. At Manitowoc he was
employed 10 years at the Rathsack Hardware company. He later worked at the Eastman
Manufacturing company until his recent illness.
Mr. Michels married the former Miss Emma Regele in 1914 at Marshfield. He was a
member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name
society.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Mittnacht funeral home,
Manitowoc, and at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Manitowoc, Rev. E. A.
Radey officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Survivors are his wife; daughters, Evelyn, at home; two sons, Robert of Madison,
and Lt. Eugene with the air force at Amarillo, Tex.; sister, Marie of Sheboygan;
seven brothers, Nick of Two Rivers, John of Sheboygan, Andrew of Elkhart Lake, Wis.,
Peter of Berlin, Wis., Edward of Brillion; Wis., Frank of Milwaukee, and William of
Campbellsport, Wis.; two grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home from Wednesday non until the time of services.
The rosary will be recited at 7 pm. Wednesday by the Knights of Columbus and
Daughters of Isabella, and at 8 p.m. Wednesday by the Catholic Order of Foresters
and the Holy Name society.
