Selina Jane Macaulay was the first of seven children born to Rev. John Macaulay (1805-1874) and his wife Jane Emma Large (1809-1892). The exact date of Selina's birth is unknown, however, she was christened in the Parish Church of St. Michael in Loppington, Shropshire on 12 November 1835 by H. M. Murray, Minister of Whixall. Selina's paternal grandparents were Zachary Macaulay (1768-1838), an Evangelical abolitionist and his wife, the former Selina Anne Mills (abt. 1767-1831), who, prior to marriage had been the proprietress of Hannah More's school for young ladies in Bristol.

Selina was the wife of Rev. William Henry Fell (1830-1866), married 10 April 1855 in the Parish Church, Aldingham, Lancashire, England, where Selina's father was vicar.

Selina died 10 February 1913 in the Withington Hospital and Workhouse infirmary, to which she was admitted 17 January 1913. She was buried by the Manchester Civic League of Help in an unmarked grave.

Selina and her husband were the parents of five children, the last of whom was born six months after the father's death:

William Henry Fell (1856-1893)
Mary Fell Papworth (1859-1949)
Arthur Babington Macaulay Fell (1862-1926)
Kenneth Macaulay Fell (1864-1957)
