The death of Mrs. Joseph Kouba occurred Friday night, April 5th, 1940 following a short illness of a complication. As Mary Macek, daughter of Katherine Zima Macek, she was born near Chelsea, Iowa, on December 3 1881, and was 58 years, 4 month and 2 days of age at the time of her death. In 1905 she was united in marriage at Toledo to Joseph Kouba and they lived on a farm northeast of this city until retiring two years ago to the home at 1405 6th avenue in Belle Plaine where she passed away. Mrs. Kouba was the mother of the following surviving children, Mrs. Mildred Kupka of Chelsea. Mrs. Ella Viktora and William Kouba of this city and Mrs. Wilma Roushar of Waterloo. Survivors These children, the bereaved husband and her sisters, Mrs. Joseph Janda of Clutier, Mrs. Frank Tresic of Chelsea and Mrs. Alex Doupnik of this city, and her brothers John and Louis Macek of Tama and Joseph Macek of this city have the sympathy of many friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Joseph Kouba at the First Congregational Church in charge of Rev. J. Irvine Walker. Burial was in the National cemetery near Vining, Iowa. Those who acted ns pallbearers were cousins of the deceased and are William, Joseph, Charles, Emil, James and Frank Novak, all of Chelsea. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Mary Kephart, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Doupnik and family, and Mrs. George Waite and family all of Cedar Rapids, and many others all from this vicinity, Chelsea.
