Britta Leena, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Makkonen, was born June 8, 1881, in Piipola, Finland, and was over 69 years of age at the time of her death. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Finland. She came to Douglas county from Finland May 24, 1903. On May 2, 1916, in Minneapolis, she was married to Matt Lahti, who survives her. They lived in Minneapolis for five years, after their marriage, then moved to Urness township on a farm where they lived since.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Isaac Lehto (Selma) of Brandon and Mrs. John Lee (Katie) of Sebeka, and two brothers, Jacob and Vaino of Brandon. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 13, at 2:00 p.m. from the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran church, with Dr. O. O. Gustafson officiating. Pallbearers were Emil Lehto, Alfred Lehto, Benhard Lehto, William Lehto, George Lehto and Wesley Siira. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
