Mrs. Katie Makkonen of Urness township passed away on Sunday, December 28 at Fergus Falls. She was born in Finland May 1, 1852 and had reached he age of 90 years. She was married in Finland in 1873 to Herman Makkonen and they immigrated to the United States in 1906 and came to Urness township where she has continued to make her home.

Surviving her are three daughters and three sons, also 28 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her husband, one son and a daughter, Mrs. Anna Lehto preceded her in death. The children are John and Jacob Hermanson, Vaino Makkonen, Selma (Mrs Isaac Lehto), Helen (Mrs. Matt Lath) all of Brandon and Katie (Mrs. John Lee) of Brainerd.

Funeral services were held at one o'clock from the residence on January 4 and at 1:30 from the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran church, Rev. Adolph North of Cokato officiating. The pallbearers were William Lehto, George Lehto, Emil Lehto, Oscar Hermanson and Alfred Lehto and Ludvig Olson.
