In 1880 Maggie was living on a farm in Ellis County with her widowed mother, Fanny P. Marney; two brothers, James F. and John C., and one sister, Lizzie M. In 1889 she was noted as "of Milford" when she married Charles H. Balch in Waco, Texas. Two months after the marriage they were living in a farmhouse one mile east of Walnut Springs when Charles shot and killed her. The newspaper reported "no cause can be assigned for the rash act."
