Edna J. (Masi) Gorman, 90, passed away Sunday at Baystate Medical Center. She was born in West Springfield to the late Prima (Scagliarini) and Antonio Masi. Ednas family moved to New York in 1934 where she was a graduate of the Girls High School in Brooklyn. She went on to attend the McDowell School of Design in New York City and was employed as an assistant designer at Nancy Hood and Jerry Gilden Fashions until her marriage to Leo J. Gorman in 1954. She then moved to the Springfield area and was a self employed seamstress. She was a communicant, Eucharistic Minister and founding member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield. Edna was also a member of their Womens Guild, serving as president 1962-1964, Senior Choir and the Baptismal Instruction Team. She was awarded the Pope Pius X award in 1993 for teaching religious adult education. More recently she was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills. Edna was predeceased by her beloved husband Leo J. Gorman in 1992 and her loving son, Leo Gorman in 2006. She was the caring sister of Elsie Cascella of West Springfield, devoted aunt of Michael Cascella of Bristol, CT and Martha Smith of Holyoke and great great aunt of Elsie Fowler. Edna leaves many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday 10:30 AM at the TOOMEY-OBRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial Friday 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills. Burial to follow at St. Michaels Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
