BARKER, JANICE MASON of Hoover, Alabama passed away December 8, 2011. She was born February 25, 1949 in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Woodlawn High School and graduated from the University of Montevallo with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. Janice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She retired from the IRS in 2003. She began her 25 year career in tax payer service. She was promoted to office of public affairs and did many TV and radio appearances promoting electronic filing in the early 1990's. She also held the title of Revenue Officer at the end of her career. She was a natural speaker. She was a former metro division governor of Toastmasters. She loved spending time with family. She enjoyed her morning coffee and watching sunsets at the beach. She was very talented. She enjoyed music and played the piano and guitar. She loved singing and was a member of the Sweet Adelines. She was preceded in death by her parents Olin and Rebecca Mason. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles R. Barker Jr.; son, Charles Olin Barker; daughter in law, Michele Weekley Barker; grandson, Charles Jackson Barker; brother, Gary Mason; sisters, Benita Barr, Helen Melton, and Ann Eanes; sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Yankov and her husband Yanko; and her best friend forever Lynne Tresaugue, whose loving cards and daily phone calls made such a difference in Janice's life. A private burial will be Friday morning with an open visitation 6:00-8:00pm Friday evening at Johns Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Diabetes Association . Pallbearers; Charles R. Barker Jr., Charles Olin Barker, Jo Ellen Yankov, Yanko Yankov, Milton McKissock, and Mary Lou McKissock.
