E. "Buddy" K. Massay

E. K. "Buddy" Massay, Jr. 76 of Greenville passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the Hunt Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be Monday, August 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Memoryland Memorial Park. Rev. Jay Sikes and Dr. John T. Tate will be officiating.

Buddy was born December 10, 1935 in Greenville to E. K. and Van Louise Peters Massay. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1954.

In his younger years he worked at the Greenville Sporting Goods store of downtown.

On Jauary 11, 1975 Buddy married Mary Margaret Sandlin in Greenville.

He was a life long member of Central Christian Church.

Buddy graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and worked many years with Sorrells & Sons Funeral Home and also drove the ambulance before city services took over. Later, Buddy owned the Greenville Pastry Shop until it closed and then worked many years at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home until his retirement.

In earlier years he enjoyed his family camping trips and yard work on Mondays. He loved to travel, and always watched Nascar, The Texas Rangers and golf.

Two words could sum up Buddy, adventure and wit. Those that knew Buddy would know of his humor and practical jokes. Many were recipients of his skills. "Little Bud" as known by other family members definitely left his mark on the world even in death he showed remarkable spirit.

He is survived by his wife Mary of 37 years of Greenville; daughter, Renee Duncan and husband Lee; sons, Scott Massay, Vic Massay of Greenville; daughter, Denice Slemmons and husband Joe; grandchildren, Jason Duncan, Marc Duncan, Adam Duncan, Michael Massay & wife Ashley, Ian Massay, Christopher Neaville, Jr., Brandi Neaville, Tyler Massay, Kyle Massay; 6 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry Sandlin who was faithfully by is side during his illness, along with cousin Newman Peters on his daily visits, and Prissy his cat, he loved that cat!

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank the 3rd and 4th floor hospital staff and Odyssey Hospice Team for their love and special care.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and son, Jason Duncan Marc Duncan, Adam Duncan, Michael Massay, Ian Massay and Vic Massay. Honorary pallbearers will be Newman Peters, Jerry Sandlin, Wayne Sandlin, Greg Coats and Chad Martin.
